if the word asexual is used? 99% of the time it's shit.

That's what I'm afraid of. I want to write fic about asexual characters and I want to make it clear that they're asexual, but I can't imagine having them actually come out and say the word without it sounding ridiculous.

I was thinking of just having them mention how past relationships never worked because the other person wanted sex and they didn't, or explain that the reason they're not in a relationship is because they know other people want sex and they don't, but I'm not sure if those are boring or uncreative ways to say it. IDK.

I don't think that's a boring or uncreative way to say it. I think overly convoluted or formal explanations tend to feel more "off" coming from a character's mouth than straightforward or casual explanations.

Thanks. My initial thought was that that would sound less awkward than a character saying "I'm asexual!" so I'm glad to hear it's not too boring!

I don't think that's odd at all. That's probably exactly the way to do it, because that sort of thing can totally be slipped into a conversation and sound realistic.

Thanks! Sounding realistic is good!
