a lot of self-proclaimed tumblr asexuals are also some of the most homophobic people you'll find online, they just couch their bigotry with "allosexual" language so they can pretend attacking the gay community or lumping gay and straight people together as "asexual oppressors" is in any way appropriate

I'm not a Tumblr person and I think "allosexual" sounds stupid but...I don't necessarily think it's bad if someone mentions straight and gay people together when they're talking about people who aren't asexual and are interested in sex. Bisexual/pansexual people, too. When they're talking about asexual people and non-asexual people, it makes sense that straight/gay/bi/pan/whatever else would be included together in the "not asexual" group.

An asexual person whining about how gay people oppress them is definitely idiotic, but if an asexual person just comments for example that they feel left out because everyone around them is sex-obsessed, and "everyone around them" includes both gay and straight people, but the asexual person doesn't single out anyone specifically, I don't see how it could be considered homophobic?

gay men are already stereotyped as being "sex obsessed" and feeding into that with asexual rhetoric is substaining homophobia, you'll also see them saying how much "purer" their romantic feelings are, or how they like someone b/c of "who they are" rather than genitals

it's all very holier-than-thou thinking that never realistically takes into account what LGBT people are already being told

Unfortunately, lgbtqia does not mean everyone under the label are pals with the other groups. Personally, I don't tell people I'm asexual because the few times I have, I've had nasty reactions from all sorts of people. It's not just heterosexual people who do not understand a lack of sexual desire (and for me, romantic desire as well). I would definitely not call it oppressive, but it's just a general lack of information across all non-asexual groups. I do find non-heterosexual groups usually more welcoming, though, since they typically ARE aware of what asexuality is. Misconceptions are still commonplace, however.
I will agree allosexual is a silly term though, and I actually do wish asexual had a different name as well if only to avoid the stupid plant jokes.
