Because I like a lot of Miyazaki's work. I thought Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Lupin III and the Castle of Cagliostro, and especially Castle in the Sky all had great storylines. Sure, Howl's Moving Castle was a letdown for people who wanted a direct adaptation of the novel, but that's no reason to hate the rest of his work.

Fair enough, though I query your taste. I like his animation, find his writing sadly mediocre and self-indulgent in comparison.

About the only one of his scripts I'd class as self-indulgent is Pom Poko, which is earlier work and pretty heavy-handed in its preachiness. The rest of it... I really don't know wtf you're talking about.
