I love his animations, and they're easily worth the price of admission on their own, but his plotting isn't terribly coherent, his characters are shallow, and his attempts to work in 'deeper' meanings often come across as sentimental or shrill.

Yep, very true. Oddly enough, the animations for (human) characters tend to be a bit weak in comparison to, say, his backgrounds too. He's pretty good with doing grotesques like the Spiderman furnace-stoker creature and mysterious creatures like No Face, but when he tries to depict humans, or to humanise his grotesques, he fails.

Often, I feel that Miyazaki tries far too hard to MAKE me feel pathos, or to think a character is attractive/likeable (rather like a fangirl with her Mary Sue) and that's a sure-fire way to get on my nerves.

I do love his animations, otherwise I wouldn't bother grouching on fs. But I wish he'd stick to doing the pretty pictures and hire someone else to write for him.

Satoshi Kon - Perfect Blue, yes? Haven't seen it, but I mean to.

I'll be certain to check them out then. I've got a friend who's into anime and manga, so they could be up her street too. Thanks. :)

Honestly, this is also the reason I'm slightly baffled when my friends say they like Miyazaki better than Satoshi Kon.

I don't know you, but I think I love you.

That would be awesome.

If Edgeworth was a playable character, his final smash would be "SUMMON FANGIRLS" and the entire screen would be obscured by hundreds upon thousands of angry, rabid teenage girls who are ready to rip apart anyone who questions 'Edgey'.

Yea I know what you mean. I feel kind of stupid to be ashamed about it, to be honest.
What I didn't put in the secret (no room) was that now I'm more inclined to look for bara manga. Maybe that's my secret....? (new at secret-making)
