Well, either way, it's just TV and no one was really hurt, so I'll let you off the hook this time. But in real life, please intervene if you see a dragon being abused or a child being thrown on a pyre.

I watched only four episodes of GOT this season, but it sounds like it fucking went off the goddamn rails...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-19 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-19 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really see how anything that happened this season was any more off the rails than anything else.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably because they gave up any pretense of following the novels.

Well, they were hit that anyway. The show has officially hit the "anime vs. manga" phase. It's gonna do it's thing now while the book readers wait impatiently for GRRM to finish the books.

Eh, you care about what you care about. I didn't bat an eye at an imaginary CG creature getting a spear chucked at it (which wasn't even fatal), but I was pretty uncomfortable during the whole sacrifice scene.

The whole thing is imaginary though, so really all it means is that the show did a bad job of making you care about the character before she was killed, and a good job of making you care about the dragons.

In general animals getting hurt upset me more than people but not with children.

Anyone willing to give me a TL;DR of the divergent shit that happens in the most recent season? I'm still debating whether or not to watch it anytime soon.

Just watch it and make your own decision.

spoilerzzz

The biggest divergence that upset people was Stannis burns his daughter because the fire lady told him too. Then he gets killed by Brienne next episode.

Maybe. It cuts away before he dies, and considering how gory the show is, I think that's going to be significant.

spoilers for season 5

(Anonymous) 2015-06-20 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Okay let's see (this is off the top of my head and only from cultural osmosis I don't watch the series anymore BUT)

Sansa is forced into marriage with Ramsay Snow and is raped and abused by him

Ellaria poisons (presumably kills) Princess Myrcella because...reasons? (So much for 'We don't hurt girls in Dorne' huh)

Jaime is also in Dorne?? For some reason?? Tbh Dorne is a fucking mess

The show goes out of its way to make the viewer know that Stannis loves his daughter more than anything... and then out of nowhere decides to sacrifice her and burn her on a pyre

Ser Barristan Selmy is killed

Tyrion meets Danaerys and is currently ruling over Meereen in her name? I think? He has power in Meereen now

Jon Snow is probably dead

...and a lot more I'm sure. If I were you I'd avoid it, I know I have it just sounds awful and not fun or entertaining

The Jon snow thong happened in the books.

Yeah I know but as far as I know his book counterpart is easier to think he survived as opposed to in the show where it seemed really final

Re: spoilers for season 5

I think he was actually killed in the books, but Melisandre will resurrect him or something.

Not really. The scene with him lying there bleeding out is pretty much exactly what's described in the book, from the wide third person of a viewer rather than the close third person of a POV character.
