(Anonymous) 2015-06-20 12:14 am (UTC)(link)During Easter, we gather willow's branches and decorate them with feathers and other colorful stuff. Then we go around our neighbors and ask if we may bless their house. We wave the branch and recite a spell. After that the willow's branch is given to the people and they give candy (or money) in exchange.
Finland is indeed not big on Halloween. I mean sure it has started to become a thing that stores sell Halloween-stuff and some people hold Halloween-parties since about late 90's, but there is no tradition. And we don't do trick or treating.
There used to be a holiday dedicated to the dead, that was held around the same time. It's traditions mostly involved making a meal similar to a funeral meal and making sure you didn't upset any of the dead relatives still hanging about, so it hasn't stayed to these days. Also because it's not all that much fun?
