idk if this counts, but I once wrote a post-2003 FMA fic where Ed came back in the middle of the winter 15 years after his disappearance to find that they had decided he was dead, and made him a nice grave on the hill.
He dug up the grave, contemplated the empty coffin, lay down in it, and then froze to death.

I don't know why I wrote it. I think I was kind of depressed at the time tbh.
