I've never seen this show, but I am puzzled why this person felt the need to mention "deaf" son, as if it makes the mother character especially brave for loving her disabled child.

It reminds me of people I've heard of who've told foster / adopted children how "lucky" they are to have a family to take care of them, as if they don't deserve a loving family.

Maybe that's just me, I don't know...

I don't think it's about not "deserving" so much as how some people don't get what they need and some of us are lucky to get what we need and deserve.

If it helps, the deaf boy in the show is recently deaf within the last two or three years in canon. Plus, his father supposedly died 3 months before. So I sometimes feel like the mother is over compensating which is why she's super patient and sweet with her son. But that's just me.

SA

And frankly, everything you just said had sweet fuck all to do with my secret. Brave had nothing to do with it.

Nor did "deservingness".

Period.

It was simply that (A) children with disabilities rarely get prominent screentime in TV shows and (B) her interactions with her child are genuinely very sweet and heartwarming.

DDA (different deaf anon)

...and that's not always the case, in some families, unfortunately.
