Love triangles suck but OP sounds more bothered by the lesbian part. Butts to that.

OP here. No, you're reading too much into it. I dislike most love triangles, period. I was relieved when show backed off the whole Sarah/Paul/Cal thing, because that was the pits.

Maybe I shouldn't have used "lesbian" in the secret, even though it is a perfectly relevant and accurate description? People are weird.

It is an apt description, a lot of people probably associated it with the common homophobic complaint that media is oversaturated with gay people, they're everywhere and it's annoying, why should we care, it's being shoved down our throats and all that.
