There’s a celebrity, who’s mainly an actor, who I admire for his talent/skills. I’ve been viewing as many of his interviews and things he’s had parts in as I can at the moment. He mostly does work for the kinds of things that interest me.

But I also watch things that aren’t that good, where he hardly gets screentime or says anything. Then I compared him to similar celebrities I also like but whose careers I haven’t looked at as thoroughly. I realised I find him better-looking, and I like the way he talks.

I know there are people on the internet who think he’s attractive. And I don’t put him on a pedestal. But he’s old enough to be my father (with a youngish start) and some angles flatter him much more than others, and I just thought that since I’ve been a cold fish about this kind of thing my whole life, I wouldn’t suddenly get a sort-of-crush this hard to explain.

TL;DR: OP who doesn’t “do” crushes got the weird celebrity crush they never had as a teenager, which isn’t actually that weird, but makes them very embarrassed anyway.

I was about to say, “He's probably not old enough to be OP's father" but then I googled him. If OP is rather young I suppose it's possible.

The more attractive at some angles thing would make sense... But it could be anyone, really.

I thought someone might guess that, but no.

Tim Roth?

I think there's a huuuuuge difference between a celebrity crush (finding someone visually appealing and wanting to watch things they're in) and an actual, in-person crush on people you know in real life, which is I think what you're comparing this to and feeling weird about.

They're not the same; don't feel weird.

I agree they aren't the same (some people might have an easier time crushing on celebs because there's almost no chance of anything coming of it; if you don't want a relationship it makes things easier) but I don't think either is shameful.

And, yea, OP might still never get a crush on someone they know IRL or another celeb, but if you do OP, that's okay!

It doesn't need to change anything unless you want it to.

I had this weird feeling that OP is internet movie reviewer Obscurus Lupa because I've been following her obsession of Quantum Leap actor Dean Stockwell (who is old enough to be her father and can be attractive in the right light, as she's noted) on Tumblr over the last few weeks. She watches like everything he's been in even the really terrible movies.

As you do, of course. You don't know how many awful Costas Mandylor or C. Thomas Howell movies I've seen (and own).

Man, I adore Dean Stockwell and C. Thomas Howell. I got the impression that OP is still pretty young (20s, maybe early 30s) which would put Dean Stockwell well out of range to be their father "with an early start," though.

Haha. I just thought this secret was weird because it was pretty much the same stuff I see on my dash from her everyday.

I guess Dean Stockwell is quite a bit older, though.

is that....

....an ostrich?

I'm kind of the opposite to OP, in that most of the celebs the Internet stans for are in my age cohort, which half the time has me thinking, "They got paid HOW much, for WHAT?" and the other half going, "People my own age have always sucked, why would celebs be any different?"

TL:DR; Book!anon says hello.

Hello, that is an ostrich! Nothing to do with the celeb in question, just chose it for having its head down.

I don't have a clear impression of what age cohort of celebs has the most stans, but yeah stans can be pretty annoying. The guy my secret's about doesn't have a visible standom as far as I know.

Benicio Del Toro. Goddamn sexy Benicio Del Toro. Been watching as many movies as I can with him in it. Even watched that one episode of Miami Vice that he plays a bit part in.

I've been doing this with Kevin Spacey...

All my friends think it's creepy but Idgaf he's hot and talented.
