Yes, this is what I was going to say. The 1980s are not the 2010s - things change, and when you watch movies from earlier time periods, you can see just how much and how quickly some attitudes can change.

While original Star Trek seems horribly sexist now, it was actually quite progressive for the time.

Thirty years from now, some of our progressive entertainment will be deemed antiquated or offensive by future standards. Things change!

My favorite bits in old Star Trek are the sexist bits. Don't get me wrong. TNG and other Trek series are muuuuuch better with female characters and that genuinely makes the show better all around, but I still laugh at the dumb gender stereotypes.

(Okay, okay. And I like the short skirts too. I'm a leg man. No apologies.)
