I'm not saying good characters can't make drama, they can make great drama. They don't have to be evil to do that. But they have to be able to make mistakes and fuck up and have things be their fault and have the story recognize it as opposed to put on them to make them the heroic victim all the time

Of course that doesn't mean they have to be the heroic victim, I think they have to have some agency, but I just don't agree that the central driver of the drama has to be some flaw which they possess.
