I'm almost always late to the party. I used to get pretty miffed at missing out on wank and things, but I very much prefer quieter fandoms these days.

I'm glad I missed out on the Firefly fandom's glory days, since from what I've heard the fans could get scary.

Me too! Although I haven't heard a lot about scary fans tbh, and I don't bother with Browncoats (I love the show, but not that much), I'm glad I got watch it without any particular expectations or influence from peers other than, "this is that thing FOX cancelled and we hate them for it."

I really wish I'd gotten into A Redtail's Dream when it was still running. The fandom was never big, but I feel like I missed out on a lot of discussion.

I also was totally late to Anno 1790, which again is a fandom that was never big, but it used to be active (for a certain degree of "active"), and I would have liked to enjoy that.

So many.

Inception about a year after the movie came out.
Thor/MCU. I didn't get into those until a year after Thor came out. I am pretty sure I saw the movies but it didn't click with me.
XM:FC. I didn't see the MOVIE until 2 years after it came out! But once I saw it, I was all in.
Star Trek? Maybe...I got into it when I got my huge Karl Urban crush and watched everything he was in. So probably about a year after that movie came out.

Apparently, I am always a year late.

Prison Break. I'm glad I didn't get into it when it was airing, though, because the suspense would have killed me. I'm quite happy streaming it on Netflix.

I got into Supernatural at the tail end of season five and thought, "Man, am I late to the party. They already have a hundred episodes in the can." And now we are going into season eleven. I don't feel so late any more.

That's when I got into SPN as well, so yeah we aren't so late.

Supernatural - at least the good parts

I found some great LJ groups that were going on around S4/S5 (which is when I started watching) but they were fairly clique-y. They were nice but the were pretty well established and I would've liked getting in earlier to feel like more than a lurker.

Fandoms on LJ is pretty much all of my main "too late to the party" regrets. I would've loved to be involved when LJ was in full swing.

This is how I feel, I really miss the old LJ days, cause I was a member of the ontd spn comm and I miss that place sometimes. But I do agree how a lot of it was clique-y. Now I feel like a lurker everywhere on here. I was 4 seasons late to House MD fandom and I was a lurker for about a month and then I stayed in that fandom for I think two more years??

I wish I'd started watching wrestling earlier. I feel legit sadness over the fact that I scoffed at it ten years ago, three years ago and was wishy-washy about actually getting into it last year. (Those are the times the idea of getting into wrestling came up.)

I wish I would have actually sat down and watched Star Trek sooner than I did. I did watch some TOS when I was a kid, but I didn't start watching the shows to completion (except ENT) until 2011, I think it was.

Kind of glad a missed some horrendous wank in the Babylon 5 fandom that supposedly caused a big falling out? The info I got on it was vague. Though, there was a resurgence of the wank when I was more active in the fandom.

I'm glad I never committed to the Supernatural fandom.

A lot of them because I always get into things late. I got into Harry Potter after the 4th book was published. Got into Buffy like 9 years ago. Doctor Who right as series 5 was coming out. Babylon 5 2 years ago. And while I did enjoy LOTR and Hobbit before, I've only gotten into the Silmarillion and obsessively into Tolkien recently.

Just way too late. I wanted to buy the translated books that were published but they're all basically with collectors and the publisher stopped translating the series and everything was basically dead and in still sad about it.

I kind of wish I had gotten into Transformers as a franchise years earlier, if only to experience what the roots for fic/art trends were and what they shifted to, the derision fans of previous generations have towards the new ones, and just be able to talk about shows and comics from way back as they happened.

There is a definite advantage in having 30+ years of a continuity backlog to consume at my own pace (rather than waiting weekly, monthly, etc.), though I have a problem where I actually end up smashing it all into my face in as few gos as possible, but you end up missing out on the meta experience of being a fan in that moment anything becomes canon. I'm keeping up with the current IDW runs and RiD2015, so I'm not entirely out of a fandom loop. And there's definitely fans whose only source material is a single cartoon, or maybe only interested in the More Than Meets the Eye comic, but for myself I absolutely want to know every different lore out there.

I watched Roswell about ten years too late and was pleasantly surprised to find there was still a fairly active fandom.

I'm always late to fandoms. I think about the only fandom I was on the 'ground floor' on so to speak, was Buffy.

XMFC and Cherik. I've just recently got into it and the pairing, and now fandom's pretty dead. :(

I just got into Ava's Demon and it's on an indefinite hiatus :/

(I'm also really disappointed at the lack of good fanwork. recs?)

I'm almost always late to the party. The ones that I'm not late for it's hey-day, you can count: HP, Fueled by Ramen-centric bandslash, sports fandom, and that's it, really.

For books and movies and animes, I'm guaranteed to be almost late cause I consume those things slow

Let's see...

Star Fox is the only one I can really think of. Yeah, I was involved in the early, early years (like, not long after SF64 came out), but I thankfully missed out on the fissure after Star Fox Adventures hit. What little of the nu!fandom I've come across seems okay (I largely avoid Krystal's stans and the explicit slash porn), but I suspect it'll get a couple month's burst of activity after SFZero come Christmas.

Some fandoms I got into a little while in, I didn't see it as getting in late as the time I got into them was right when something made them popular - Harry Potter in between GoF and OotP, LotR when the movies came out.

SPN did feel like I was a little late as I got into it between seasons 6 and 7, and there were plenty of critics saying the series stopped being great after season 5.

However for a fandom I really feel I missed the boat on, the time I got into Final Fantasy gave me that feeling a fair bit. I came into it about half a year before Advent Children came out and by then the fandom was long-established and it's really annoying trying to explore a fandom that grew in the late 90s/early 2000s as you have the trouble of trying to navigate old fansites of which half are now dead and gone. FF7 however had it's growing revival at the time, but FF8 never had, and I liked that game better on a whole than I did FF7.

Harry Potter

I've been getting more into the fics, lately -- especially the epic badfics that have survived the years. Rereading the books probably helps.
