Because Garfield is too old to play Peter and Marvel wants Spider-Man, a young one, in their movies now. (They finally got the rights to put him with The Avengers.) So, because of that, we have another reboot.

I never got why Garfield was cast in the first place. He was too old then.

Though he did have good chemistry with Sally Field. The "egg scene" was touching.

I never even saw the movie but I'm imaging the egg scene to be a homage to Edie from Pink Flamingos. Aunt May wants to know when eggman will get there.
