I think the fact that the reboot Kirk/Spock are imitating TOS IS a big reason a lot of people ship them though. Like, I'll be the first to say that I think the reboot writers are horrible. Just godawful writers. And so shipping something that's based on TOS STILL has more meaning to me because at least it has some substantive writing to base it on.

Whereas everything else they do tends to fall flat.

For MCU!Stony, I'm not shipper (and I'm not familiar with 616!Stony either) but I still get why people ship them because I can see how, even though their interactions are so limited, they lend themselves well to the types of stories that people want to read/enjoy (opposites attract, drama, Steve being so good while Tony is a basically a reformed bad guy, etc.).
