Fandom voyeurism

(Anonymous) 2015-06-25 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Somebody I follow has recently gotten into One Direction fandom hardcore - like, die hard shipping, constant updates on concert tour, thirty-five versions of the same gif of their perfume release photoshoot hardcore. It should be totally obnoxious - I don't get the appeal of bandom, I've never listened to a single 1D song, I find RPS kinda skeevy, I'm not even into dudes ffs - but, for some damn reason, I'm finding it hilariously enjoyable.

My question for you is this, f!s: what fandom that you aren't in do you get a big kick out of? Which shippers do you silently cheer for, despite not knowing either of the characters involved?

Oh man, I'll have to go with One Direction too. I follow some people who are SUPER INTO THESE DUDES and I just find it all weirdly adorable and fun to watch from the sidelines.

Right?? They're in their own little universe but man, it seems like it's a fun universe to be in.

haha, she's just now getting into the 1D fandom? man, she's pretty late to the party on that one. you're right though, it's a pretty fun fandom to observe.

I've never seen the show, but I get a kick out of the Sherlock fandom sometimes. I kind of find myself rooting for the Lestrade/John shippers because I feel a bit sorry for them (I get the impression that Lestrade/John is not a very popular pairing).

There's someone I follow who is into bands like Daft Punk and Pink Floyd and is really hot for the band members and dudes who are three times her age AT THE LEAST, and it's kind of fun to watch.

Free, sort of. I love the abridged series, but I've never watched the actual anime. I like looking at fanart too.

Okay, I am in the fandom now. But for a VERY long time I got a huge kick out of Game of Thrones, specifically Brienne/Jaime shippers. I used to reblog their GIFsets but I didn't know their names so I called them One Handed Hobo and Lady Knight.

Kind of OT, but I always love seeing your Jamie and Brienne posts because of how you tag them, it makes me smile.

There are two characters I will do extravagant screaming tags about. Brienne and Donna (DOOONNNNNAAAAAAA) from Doctor Who.

Also don't watch the show, but that is adorable.

Not exactly what OP's asking about, but whatever - Roy/Ed in FMA. I do watch the show (I actually used to be a huuuuuuuge fan), but I so do not ship those two. Like, they're kinda my notp, to use a dumb but precise term. BUT the Roy/Ed fans I follow are just so nice and having such a good time, and they clearly care a lot about both characters in a way that I just find really endearing, IDK.

I know someone who is crazy hard into the Assassin's Creed & Halo fandoms. Neither does a lot for me, but she's just so into 'em that I can't not follow along and appreciate her zest.

I like to think of myself as an honorary Destiel shipper, despite not actually ever finishing more than half of season 1. It's also kind of relaxing to hear about the consistency of plots in that show (something about either of the brothers going to hell every season, and the remaining brother having to rescue them from hell yet again or something).

Korra/Asami in Legend of Korra

never watched the show, only read some review and complaints, and then people joking said they should just ditch Mako and date each other, then some of them started meaning it for real, and I cheered

AND THEN IT BECAME CANON.

I can only conclude I have magic canon-granting powers.

f!s, tell me which pairings you want to become canon, I'll root for them
