It's funny, anon, because hypermasculine muscly macho types are actually THE gay stereotype in Japan. Like a Village People-esque Hard Gay thing? Have you seen bara? There's some manime for you. I think a modern audience looks back at that Fist of the North Star stuff and thinks "shit man, that looks kinda gay." And then you have Jojo, which just full-on embraces the camp-ness of it all with its flamboyant art style.

That's part of why that aesthetic has gone out of fashion, IMO.
