*snicker*

Awww, poor baby. Someone hasn't quite figured out that books and movies are two different media. I loved the movie. And I loved the book long before the movie ever got announced. The movie is not the book, and really, it shouldn't be. As a movie, it's pretty darn fantastic. As an interpretation of the book, it's equally good, and almost all the changes you whinged about are necessary changes to make the overall story carry over better without having to spend forever explaining. Without prose and without taking a good deal longer to explain it, the average person watching the movie would not get that "hey, Dunstan loved someone else but got fairy-spelled and had baby-sex and then went and courted and married the other girl and had a kid and it's all right!"

That's one more complication the plot didn't need. As for the other stuff...eh. Movie. Not exactly a horrible HOW DARE THEY?!? change, really.

I only had two complaints about the movie:
1) I think the conflict should've ended at the Wall with the witch realizing Yvainne's heart wasn't her own just because all the different plotlines were getting to be a bit tiresome for some people who hadn't read the book (my family). But then, a big, spectacular fight-scene-type ending was almost required.

2) I wish Lady Una had been the not-at-all-pleasant-or-nice character she was in the book. But then I have to acknowledge that the average movie-goer will think "Why the heck should I like or care about this haughty jerk of a character? Is she supposed to be a good-guy?" if presented with a character like book!Una in the short ammount of time a movie would've given it.

I agree with Douglas Adams--why do something the same way twice? The movie was true to the spirit of the book, even if it different in a lot of other places. It was still a good, fun, adventure.

I completely agree. I actually enjoyed the movie quite a lot more than the book, but the only way to enjoy it is to back off and let it be a different experience.

...Why I should always check the journal before I comment. Sorry, that was me.

Also -- score for citing Douglas Adams. ♥
