I TL;DR worse than that on a regular basis ♥ Thank you so much for the comment, with all the people who go around calling him a sociopath it's great to know that I'm not missing some key piece of information and having a skewed perspective -- I see it the exact same way you do. I think as a teenager, Light was still very much trying to find his sense of self-definition and was looking for a role in the world -- one outside of the perfect straight-A student who made his parents proud etc. etc. etc. and wanted to find some sort of purpose to his life other than acing every test. Actually, Light finding the Death Note when he was fully an adult, not a teenager still really figuring out his place in the world, could be quite an interesting AU.

Wow, you actually do see things the exact same way as me. :o ILU, OP. ♥♥ All the Light hate in this fandom really makes me sad sometimes. :[ And I really hate it when people go around calling him "evil"/"a bastard"/"an awful person" etc. I just don't think it's as simple as that.
