Crazy people can be tragic; just because a person calls Light a sociopath doesn't mean he/she doesn't think he's a tragic character. Hamlet's antic disposition masks real madness, but that doesn't make him any less of a tragic hero, you know?

Writing off Light's social and mental issues is just as much a disservice to the character as calling him crazy and walking away. Just because he's got some complex characterization and his story is a tragic one doesn't mean he isn't a sociopath or whatever.

I'm not in DN fandom so I don't know how exactly the fans react toward the character, but when *I* call him crazy? It's not because I think he's complicated or tragic - it's because I think he ended up going, well, crazy, but that doesn't mean that's the be-all end-all of my interpretation.
