No, I'm not saying that at all, actually. I have no idea where you got that from, since my comment is barely two sentences, but whatevs.

And just as a side note, I love Broadway. I acted in musicals for about 7 years.

You're definitely one of the few who has read the book, seen the musical, and liked both. Kudos, I guess, that you can separate the two from each other. In my experience, though, people who like both saw the musical first, and then read the book. But I had read the book many years before seeing the musical, and I gotta say, I had to physically restrain myself from standing up and shouting when their Fiyero came on the stage. No. Just..no. They took so many complex themes and relationships and watered them down to drivel so that the masses could happily lap it up from the floor, completely unaware that they had missed out on anything better.

Also, tl;dr.

A lot of people don't even know the book exists. Which is why I get so angry, and make mention of it.

Mainly the way you called the show 'a steaming pile of crap' and then referred to yourself as 'the Educated'. Sorry if I misinterpreted that, but I'm still not sure how I could have interpreted it any other way.

In my experience, though, people who like both saw the musical first, and then read the book.

I can cite a few people besides me who read the book first, then saw the musical, and liked both! And one RL friend of mine was a huge fan of the book, then went and saw the musical, and when we talked about it later her biggest complaint was that they couldn't transfer Fiyero's blue diamonds to stage. Not the characterization of Fiyero, mind, but the blue diamonds themselves. Which kind of made me laugh.

Sure, okay, fair enough. But assuming that just because someone is talking about the musical positively (as the secret OP is) they have never read or never heard of the book (as your original comment did) is unfair and assumes that the rest of the world shares your views on Wicked.

I'm actually fully aware that most people don't share my views on Wicked. But that's because most of the people I've encountered who have seen the show and didn't even bother reading the book, or even worse, read the book and thought it was "boring". I only know one other person who feels the same way as me, and she had also read the book first. It's hard these days even talking about the book, because everyone automatically assumes I mean the damn musical, and either starts singing "Popular" at me, or that "Defying Gravity" nonsense. Ugh!

I was actually really excited about the musical, mostly because I was expecting something Sondheim-esque from it. But holy crap, wow, why even bother calling it Wicked? Why even bother calling those characters by those names? The only one they did right was G(a)linda, and even then she was really over the top.

Blahblahblah. Anyway, thanks for actually arguing intelligently. We aren't going to agree ever, but whatevs. It was cool having a discussion with a random person that could actually present their opinion in a completely reasonable way for once. Kudos to you, seriously.
