My fandom(s) aren't particularly satisfying me right now. I want to write fic, but, at the same time, I don't. I want read fic, but it doesn't exist. I want to chit-chat about fandom stuff, but I like characters people don't care as much for. And I don't really feel like sustaining a conversation anyway. Playing Sims is doing nothing for me right now. I don't want to get into a new fandom right now. Sigh.

You guys ever get like this? Use this thread for fandom talk so this just isn't a wasted post.

Do non-fandom stuff. The break will be sure to revitalize your fandom enthusiasm.

I'm going to visit family next week, so we'll see how being away from home helps. Except it'll probably be super depressing, because I'll be kind of helping my mom clean out what is essentially a childhood home for both of us. I'll probably never see this house again after next week. and the thought is totally making me cry right now, omg. lots of memories.

So in preparation for the new book (which I am very excited about, even though I don't think it will live up to my expectations T^T), I reread all the Fitz books to remember what happened, and now am chewing them over in my mind and kind of wishing there wasn't a fanfiction embargo.

It's interesting on a reread. I skipped the ships books this time, and I've never read the Rain Wilds books (started, but got bored). Some stuff annoys me less now about the ending, but some still really bothers me.

*Fitz getting stuck in that pillar at the end was a copout any way you look at it. It was either because had Fitz and the Fool met again breaking them up wouldn't have been realistic, or just because Hobb hates to let Fitz be actually happy and had to fuck him over one last time.

*I think the whole dragon things is interesting, because I wonder if it's truly the best for humanity. I wonder if having Elderlings and their fancy magic once more, as well as dragons, wouldn't actually set back the development of technology, which is iffy already. They spend so much time trying to reclaim lost knowledge, and not enough looking forward. I'm not sure if having massive predators and a small community of people able to provide ridiculously expensive fancy magics is actually good for humanity, in the long run. I don't know if this is addressed, though.

...anyway, happy to talk about the books until now, but no spoilers for the first Fitz and the Fool book yet plz!

Wait, I thought the first book of the new series already came out? Did I dream that I'd read it? o_O

no no, it's out, it's just that only now I got my hands on it! So it's shiny for me still and I haven't started it yet.

Late to the party, but I was away over the weekend and only just got to read F!S. It's good to see that this series still has fans!

The dragons as massive predators thing is addressed in the first book of the new series if I recall correctly, although thus far there hasn't been a resolution to the issue.

Also, I agree that Fitz getting stuck in the pillar was a total copout. As you said, what other way could the author separate him and the Fool realistically? It would have taken another couple of hundred pages at least to make that happen believably.

I am now about halfway through the new book, and wow is this not the direction I had initially expected it to go. Though I did see some of those twists coming.
In a way, and I mean this in the fondest way possible because I do love the series - maybe it's that Robin Hobb as an author is less good than the story she wanted to tell. I feel like with Fitz and the Fool she found this magic combo that works, but none of her other books did it for me. And sometimes the plot has to be contrived a little to make what she wants happen (which always disappoints me, when you feel the author's hand pushing).

I mean SPOILERS FOR ASSASSIN'S FOOL
Given what Fitz went through with the Fool, I don't know how he didn't think of Whites WAY earlier on. I mean pale wispy people who don't show up to his Wit? HMMMMM. And when Bee was born, especially with the dreams, how did he not think of the Fool for a moment at least, or say "hmm well it's probz not that b/c I can sense her" or something? It's really weird shortsightedness.

Sims 2:

Playing Sims 2 on and off over the last couple of weeks. Yesterday Nina Caliente-Lothario gave birth during a party next a stove she'd just set on fire. It was nerve-wracking, but no deaths resulted, despite the tiny kitchen being full of flailing, surprising inflammable Sims. She and Don are my Sims 2 OTP, I swear. They are really loving with each other. Tell me about what you usually do with your premade Sims.

WWE:

This fandom makes me feel too many emotions. I spent like an hour transcribing a scene last night just for my own pleasure, because I don't think the fandom was chomping at the bit for anything like that. I might do Seth's promo with Kane and Joey from Smackdown too, it I can stand to watch it again. TOO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT JAMIE NOBLE. Not really feeling smut for this fandom right now, but I got a comment on my smuttiest fic for this fandom begging me to continue, and it's such an OOC/AU thing that it probably won't hurt me too much to work on it. Any of my wrassle nonnies hanging around and want to talk about this week's events?

Mad Max Fury Road:

FINALLY WATCHED THIS LAST NIGHT. So, I watched the Asylum version of this a month or so back, and while I enjoyed the post-apocalyptic aesthetic, I had major complaints over the fact that the story was one of those "soon after the apocalypse the characters try and right the world" kind of things. And, I'm so not here for that any more. I want to see post-apocalypse stories that are lower-stakes, that are people living the world that's been left to them and surviving with what have. Not going out and trying to save the world. AND FURY ROAD WAS THAT. (I mean the the Mad Max series is pretty much that anyway, but a lot big-budget stories are saving the world/universe stories now and I'm bored with it.) Fury Road was a story about women trying to find a place to survive, a place where they weren't property. Furisosa didn't give two shits about the other unfortunates at the Citidel, she just wanted to go home, and I love that. And Max didn't really care either - he just didn't want to see anyone else killed when he could possibly prevent it. (Kinda shipping Max/Furiousa btw.) Anyway, I don't have too many other thoughts on. I just liked that their characters were so self-serving, in a way. Also, Nux is the cutest thing.

Just saw Mad Max a second time. Just as amazing.

I'll probably see it again too. It was very fun. I want to pair it with Dredd so bad.

Loved the Suplex City chants for Brock, liked the beat down Brock got.

I liked seeing Brock get beat down too. Everyone is complaining that they hate the Authority is back together, but I mean, what did you expect Seth to do? Brock's been presented as this unstoppable beast, and Triple H is right - Seth is stupid if he doesn't have back up or a plan B. So he squirmed around and found his plan B. J & J can't deny him - they love him too much. Kane's loyal to Hunter, so he's not gonna say no. I love it.

TBH, I half expect Seth's plan B to be to have Heyman turn on Brock at Battleground. Heyman's not exactly the most loyal person when there's somebody else who's got the gold he can manage.

Yesssss I'm glad you finally saw it! Isn't it great? I love that it's just about survival and not magically fixing the world. The world is ruined and they're all survivors!

I have been playing in Veronaville and I always intermarry the Capps and Montys. Currently I'm so far off the original generation that it doesn't matter (everyone in town is completely related and probably cousins, silly Sims)

I've decided to start playing in Belladonna Cove right now and will see how Apartment Life goes, since I have all of the expansion packs now.

I have never played Veronaville or Belladonna Cove. :(

Do you ever play Strangetown or do you just stick to Pleasantville?

Anyway! I've been reading some WWI stuff lately, and it's put me in the mood to replay Valiant Hearts. Such a good game!

But on the other hand, I don't want to break my heart and cry my eyes out all over again.

I kind of want to write fic as well, but it's kind of an intimidating canon to write for, I think. No matter if I research the hell out of whatever I'm doing, I'll totally worry that I'll get something wrong.

Who else here has played it? Does anybody want to talk about it?

Okay! Anything in particular or just various scenes of them being awesome?

I read a pretty good Max/Nux fic the other day, so I am all for some Max and Nux scenes. :D

I'll do that one after the set of the Many Mothers. So probably be 1-2 days.
