Crying Scenes

What are your favorite scenes in any of your fandoms that features a character crying? And why do you like it so much -- context, acting performance, a combination, etc?

The one I always remember is Arwen in The Two Towers during her talk with Elrond. Liv Tyler is just so pretty.

More LOTR...I love when Gandalf falls, they get out of the mine and everyone is crying and then Aragorn yells "Frodo!" at a figure walking away and Frodo just turns around as the music swells with tears running down his face. Gets me every time.

The "It's not your fault" scene in Good Will Hunting.

During the Avatar: the Last Airbender finale...when Zuko reunites with Iroh, how choked up he is as he says how ashamed he is of his behavior and then Iroh just reaches over and hugs him and Zuko can't believe he's forgiven so quickly....OMG

Also, when Iroh cries for Lu Ten

I second this. And also when Iroh said he wasn't angry, but sad over the possibility of Zuko having lost his way. Just thinking about this scene and the Lu Ten one is making me tear up.

Spock's meltdown scene in the episode "The Naked Time" always gets me. :(

The scene in the third season finale of Supernatural where Sam cries after Dean dies. I like all of Sam's crying scenes though; Jared just has a good crying face. It always looks very genuine

Shuan crying over his mom dying in Shaun of the Dead. Gary crying and reveling scars from suicide attempts in The World's End. (I found this scene hot because, if I remember correctly, he's on his knees and I'm all for guys crying while on their knees). Simon Pegg is a good crier.

Colin Morgan from Merlin BBC has the best crying scenes. I mean, just picking one is hard.

Hmmmmmm. Those are the three that come to mind first. I'm sure I can think of more later, though.

In Supernatural: Dean crying when telling Sam about his time in hell.
It's just the perfect balance between stoic wet eyes and flat-out bawling. Just three or four long tears running down the cheeks, slight lip wobbling and then wiping the eyes.

Dean is a good crier too. Mmm

Jensen Ackles is the best crier.

Moon

When Sam calls his daughter and sees that she's gotten older and tries to find out what happened to her mother and then hears his own voice yelling, "Who's asking about Mom?"

He cuts off communication and then...he just looks so tired, the way he says "That's enough." and then hits the back of the seat.

But what really kills me is when he starts crying and saying "I want to go home." as the camera pans out and we see that he's staring at the Earth...

Goddamn does it get to me.

God, that film. That film was amazing and intense and broke my fricking heart.

Schindler crying over how he could have saved more lives at the end of the film.

During Saving Private Ryan, when one of the young soldiers is holding his intensities against his abdomen screaming "Mama!" during D-Day.

Seconding Spock from The Naked Time. Also Kirk at the end of Wrath of Khan: "Young...I feel young."

Picard in the Star Trek TNG episode "Family" when he finally breaks down over what the Borg did to him.

That scene in the Starsky & Hutch episode "Gillian", when Hutch first flips out and then just collapses and cries his eyes out while clinging to Starsky as tight as he can.

That bit in the Psych season 4 finale, when Juliet cries in Lassie's arms when she's freed from the clock, partly because of trauma and partly because Lassie came instead of Shawn.

That scene in the Andy Griffith Show episode where Opie accidentally kills the mama bird and is trying to make her fly again.

And if it counts, in Downton Abbey, Mr. Carson when he proposes to Mrs. Hughes.

Half of LOTR ("Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee" deserves a special mention), that Matt and Foggy scene in Daredevil, half of In the Flesh (especially...after Rick, but the scene with Kieren's father was totally heartbreaking as well; so much of the series was), Roy at Hughes' funeral, Big Boss at The Boss' grave during MGS3 (I mean, shit...the entire sequence from the fight to Eva's speech and the graveyard scene was stellar and unforgettable), that scene in Samurai Flamenco (...there was crying, right? I feel like there was crying near the end of the screaming, and it was beautiful. And insane), anytime James McAvoy cries (I haven't seen all his movies, but I know for a fact that when he cries it is spectacular), Kotetsu and Barnaby in Tiger and Bunny ("You have long eyelashes")...

There are so many more, IDEK.

OH: and SPN has a lot of them (from earlier seasons anyway, when I actually watched), but my favorite will always be after Sam dies for the first time. Jensen was brilliant in those scenes.

England crying on his knees, in the rain, and Shinsei Roma saying goodbye to Ita-chan (that one he wasn't openly crying, but trying hard not to)

Every time Michael Rosenbaum did his sad eyes thing at the camera. Also not quite crying.

Yuna crying in Final Fantasy X, and in a lesser degree when Tidus cries later on in the game.

The Yuna scene I find so great mostly because of what comes before the actual crying (though what comes after is good too)

Black widow crying in avengers. I like it because of how it degrades her.

Jimmy McGill confronting his brother Chuck in Better Call Saul. "I thought you were proud of me..."

All he ever wanted was Chuck's love and approval. MY FEELS.

Always, always the goodbye scene between Ten and Rose in "Doomsday." Especially the way Billie Piper said "I love you," because she managed to sound frustrated even while crying. I thought it was the perfect way to play that, instead of "Oh woe, our love will never be."
