hockey players also have established public images - sidney crosby in particular has has extensive media training, so why should this be any different than other RPF besides the fact that you know some hockey players? short answer: it's not.

yeah, crosby's been the face of the NHL for years now, but i don't necessarily think media training and a public image are the same thing. for example, pop idols or old historical figures definitely have established images. the entire point of an idol is to sell a very fake version of themselves, and historical figures have been in so much fiction that it's easy to think of it as shipping those fictional versions of themselves than actual dead people.

that's all incredibly different from knowing to say, "it was a good game, the other team played well, we'll keep on playing our best" in interviews. most players really are just being themselves.

i mean, i think all rpf is creepy and intrusive, but shipping athletes comes across as the worst kind.
