Well, yeah. If it's the difference between starving and stealing, look out, 'cause I'm about to land some major five-finger discounts! Dunno about the others, but Robin Hood makes sense, too. What the law considered "theft" in those days meant poaching on land that belonged to the king or something like that. The king doesn't need those deer to feed himself, it's for hunting as entertainment. Peasants with no feed needed the game more.

Well, Robin Hood also robbed rich merchants who had to hire guards and that drove up the prices.

And probably gave the economy a little boost with job creation. ;D

Also, the punishment for poaching the king's royal deer was draconian, so I'm happy to root for anyone who gets away with it.

... I think I've been awake too long. "Royal deer" just made me think of ... deer wandering around with crowns, or something. Right. Sleep soon.

Oh dear gods (... pun unintended). Now you have me curious. Dare I ask?

well, in fairness, it's not actually a deer king, but that was kind of the one-line description that got bandied around a lot

It's a game called Blue Rose, and basically in the main sort of good-aligned, home-base kingdom, every time the monarch dies, a new one is chosen by a magical spirit deer that bestows a sacred mark upon some random citizen. it's great

it's actually a really cool game in general, it's basically trying to emulate Mercedes Lackey and Tamora Pierce and stuff like that, worth checking out if you like that kind of stuff
