Re: Am I just doing this really wrong?

It's one of those "you had to be there" shows, basically. When you're watching as an 11-12 year old, that shit is incredible, but objectively it just doesn't hold up to an adult viewing. Nostalgia still makes it watchable to me, since I remember the intense feelings I had for it, but I totally get that someone watching it for the first time as an adult is probably not going to enjoy it very much, if at all.

When I was 12, my Dad was watching it. He had a tendency to talk about how "hot" the girls were and wax poetic about Buffy's sexy body, so I never watched it then because it disgusted me. I heard so much good about it that I'm trying to watch it now as an adult, but I'm sad that I missed the boat. Oh well. :(

What the hell? I'm sorry if this is rude to say, but that's shitty as fuck.

ayrt

Ah, that would certainly put a damper on things. :( I'm sorry to hear that. Don't feel bad, though, there are plenty of other shows out there that have a bit of the same premise! It's cheese factor nine, but I was a fan of Dark Angel for a little while, if that interests you?

Blech! I can see how one's parent talking about how 'hot' the actor/actresses are at that age can completely turn one off to a show. My sympathies anon.

IDK. I watched it for the first time when I was 18 and I loved it. I could also see all the parts where it's stupid and has annoying teen stuff and outdated bits, but that didn't affect my love for it at all except wrt taking the shipping seriously.

Yeah, same really.

But it might also depend on what kind of sci fi/fantasy the viewer is used to. I know for me, I hadn't really ever read or seen much - I still haven't. But while Buffy did get darker in later seasons, it started out pretty light compared to most of what's out there, and that may affect how people feel, too.
