Food (but not ED) related

(Anonymous) 2015-06-30 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
My big goal is to eat better, but I've broken it down into a couple heats, the first of which is "make better choices when I'm eating out."

I've also gotten over the objection to ordering "mini/junior" desserts. For the longest time it just seemed wasteful, because even though less money is being spent, you're paying so much more per ounce if you go the mini route than just getting a small.

I'm also typically eating out less.

But my last hurdle, I've discovered, is the ability to throw things away. I was raised on the "clean plate club" mentality, which has led me to keep eating well after I'm full because I've got this food, and I paid for this food, so I should eat it all. And yeah, it's true we shouldn't be wasteful, but really? A starving kid in China doesn't actually want -- and has no way to acquire -- my half-eaten cheeseburger, or the last handful of fries in my container. It's okay to throw those out if I'm full.

So, I'm working on that.

Good on you for eating better and eating out less. Seriously, kudos.

Note on your half-eaten food: you can stash that stuff in the fridge and reheat it later. No need to throw anything away.

True, but I'm not really into re-heated burgers. Once they've been sitting in a fridge in their own condiment slop for six hours, the appeal kind of goes away. Plus, I have a habit of forgetting things I leave in the work fridge.
