Agreed on all of this. The Injustice comic alone has been real interesting.

Related: Have you ever read Irredeemable? Injustice felt like DC's adaptation of it.

You can probably guess - I love Injustice XD I put off reading it for a while because "fighting game tie-in" didn't sound too fascinating to me, but when I picked it up, I was surprised how high stakes and exciting it was. And yes, it has Superman being consumed by darkness, which ... yeah.

I have not read Irredeemable, actually! Thanks for the rec!

Don't forget to read the sister series Incorruptible, as well! Both are great reads, no surprise given they're by Mark Waid.

Oh yeah, Supes is my favorite too, but IA he can easily be completely boring when handled poorly. In fact, I'm actually pretty picky about his characterization - unlike some superheroes, he has to be *just right* in order for me to really enjoy him. That doesn't take away the fact that he's my favorite. ;)

LOL Thanks! It was cropped from a terribad but highly entertaining series called "Countdown To Final Crisis."

LOL, it looks/sounds fun. :)

TBH, I think if you're a writer, and the only way you can think of to make Superman interested is to make him evil... You're not actually that good of a writer.

And, Evil!Supes is often done really boringly too.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.

I think the only time I actually liked it was in the DCAU two-parter "A Better World", and that really worked for me because (spoilers) (1) he wasn't alone and (2) he didn't realize he was evil. I liked that, and thought it wasn't boring af.

"A Better World" is a stone cold classic.

I agree with you, Evil!Supes can be super bland as well, but if it's done cleverly - like in your example - it's always worthwile :)
nightscale: Princess of my heart (DC: Wonder Woman)

I have to agree, I'm not even the biggest fan of Supes but when he's written well it's pretty awesome and he's very interesting, he's just one of those characters that to me is very easy to fuck up.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think all superhero characters get that though. They get boring or obnoxious if you put them with a writer that doesn't understand them.

lol I know that's supposed to be leg muscle, but I can't help seeing a giant Superbulge here.

I'm not into evil Supes but I'd like to read bad-ass, not giving a fuck Superman kinda like he was when he was first created. I want Superman to be a cocky dick with a keen sense of justice. The guy who liberated North Korea and stomps the fuck out of ISIS, then has a bro-down wherever because he's fucking Superman and everyone knows the party is where he is. He should also fuck Lois and any other willing woman he desires. He can fuck Jimmy too.
