Re: What's a TV show, book, or movie that you knew you SHOULDN'T like, but you did?

I actually don't hate that. I enjoy the craziness. But it is because I love the characters so I love seeing them go through all this. I never feel that way with soap operas because the characterization is always so flat that I don't keep watching because I don't care for any of the characters. That is what sets Grey's apart for me. The craziness works because of the strong characterization (although I think it may have gone a bit far more recently, but that may be the lack of Christina and very little Callie stories for me since those two are my favorites).

Yeah, definitely. I can't watch actual soap operas because I hate the characters, but Grey's grabbed me.

Meredith is my favorite character, even though she's hard to love. I stopped watching after Cristina left and I heard Derek died.

Meredith was always hit or miss to me, mostly because she hits too close to home a lot of the time (though more in early seasons). Derek I outright can't stand, so I don't mind that he's gone. But his death was badly done. And none of the characters I care about are getting any story.

I enjoyed Arizona's storyline early this season, but then everything just got boring. I hate that Callie and Arizona got divorced and seem to be permanently apart now. I love that they brought in Amelia, but I hate that she was shoved right into a romance with Owen (and that she wasn't given the chance to really mourn for Derek, her brother).

I've been along for the ride on this show, even for storylines I didn't like, but just this past season after the first episodes was so boring. Even Derek's death was boring.

I didn't realize I was getting attached to her until it was too late. It was like she snuck up on me...I was like "yeah she's kind of boring" and then when Derek was being a dick I was like "how dare you. get away from her."

On a side note, I didn't like Derek much either. I felt as though he inflicted way too much damage on Meredith and guilted her for not reciprocating his feelings in a way HE wanted. The reason I stopped watching was because all of the extremely unneeded character death was grating on me, and hearing about another just made me uninterested.

I hate that Arizona and Callie broke up. Arizona didn't not feel like the kind to cheat and the fact that she did felt like just a way to break them up. I didn't expect them to be together forever, perfectly, but the way they broke up seemed like a slap in the face. Their bittersweet breakup about the children would have made much more sense and I actually would have preferred that to be the reason. On a sidenote, I miss Mark, Callie, and Arizona together so bad it hurts. My OT3!

It seems as though they're grasping at straws now. The spirit of the show was perfect in those first few seasons, but it got too dark and started taking itself too seriously. Like Glee!

I honestly think that part of it is that Shonda's attention turned to her other shows, which are all so much darker than Grey's. Even when horrible things happened on Grey's before, there was always a certain lightness. And while I don't believe in destiny and "one true love" that was always part and parcel of Grey's until recently. Now it is becoming almost as dark as her other shows and it doesn't really feel like Grey's anymore.
