Nah, it's still optional.

And reasonably so IMO - although it's more precise to use it, the times when it matters are fairly rare, and can usually be worked out from context. And it's probably better to just relax and accept the fact that it's a widespread alternate usage.

But wouldn't it be easier just to always do it? It doesn't hurt to have it but it can be confusing without. Instead of having to double check to see if something makes sense, just add it.

if I'm coming out of my driveway most people can tell from context which direction I'm about to go in. I still put my blinker on.
