I thought it was a US vs UK thing, but I'm an American now living in the UK and have heard in both countries that one isn't supposed to use it. I prefer using it, but I'm really self-conscious about it. Like I feel naughty when I do use it, feels so wrong but yet oh so right.

The Oxford comma is definitely how I was taught to write, and I've lived in the US and other countries, and largely grew up on English and Irish writers.

That said, I rarely notice that the New York Times doesn't use it.
