If we're going to be getting a female villain at all, I don't think the best choice would be a bizarro version of a good character. Sounds like darkfic territory.

"Sounds like darkfic territory."

To be honest, I'd actually really LOVE a dark take on Steve Rogers in the MCU, where he's utterly broken, or latches on to his values even to the detriment of the public/common good.

I know it won't happen (and it's basically impossible to do this late in the game without being wildly OOC) but I still think it could make a truly excellent story in capable hands. I already know how I would do it - coming out of the ice, there are a lot of possibilites.

Well when it's fanfic, I'm cool with anything as long as it's not maliciously intentioned character assassination. Steve is my favorite character, and I'm always up for dark takes of the character. I don't want any of that in canon, though, and certainly not at this point in the development. Which is pretty much what I would say about Hydra!Sharon, really.

Keep all the darkness out of canon! It can only be sunshine and rainbows!

Doing dark in canon should be like: characters struggle with existing demons, make hard decisions, face consequences. Character is a villain now is definitely fanfic-level.

Depends on how it's done. It's really not that unusual in fiction for a character to wind up being a mole, or for a good character to wind up changing their views and going to the other side.

Are those characters adaptations of existing properties, though? You could do any number of things with original characters (and they already do) without invoking that "LOL this fanfic" feeling in viewers.
