it wasn't themself but they made remarks about how mentioning the ship to a family member was traumatizing and that it ruined that family member's childhood to find out that people shipped their favorite characters together

it's not children or anyone underage being shipped but two grown healthy adults btw

"Traumatizing." For fucking shit, people need to graduate to pull-ups and stop making trivial things out to be huge, life-shattering events.

If your ship is slash of some famous duo of friends, it was probably humor and manner of speech like exagerating the fact that we sometimes don't realize there are many gen fans that have no idea people ship those friends together. I'm not surprised, 90% of my real life friends think that a 'ship' is just a boat! Since you said 'childhood' it must be somnething that the person they are referring to saw as kids so they have a specific attachment for the characters and the friendship that holds a special place in their heart that maybe you don't take into consideration as being as valid as people shipping romance but maybe it is as valid and as deep.

As long as they don't say your ship will traumatize and ruin everyone's childhood and they are just commenting on their family member/friend reaction, I don't see the big deal unless you want to be angry with the stranger who had that reaction.
