If it's AO3,and I really really like it, I bookmark and download that version since it's least likely to end up behind a friend lock or bahleeted forever. Well, that's more of an lj thing, because wow it kinda bums me to have to replace my links with waybackmachine'd ones because of deletion (fic memes too).

No, I totally feel you. Pokémon Johto strikes an emotional chord with me that the original theme doesn't. "Everybody wants to make a statement / Everybody needs to carve their mark," and all that. I love both songs, but I definitely get where you're coming from.
