It's an extension of the me-centric attitude so many people have these days. THEY don't like this thing, therefore no one else should like this thing either because don't you know that everyone should cater to them?

The logical response would be "I don't like this thing and therefore I will avoid it" but then if they did that they couldn't make it all about them, which is ultimately what all of that behavior is about-- trying to draw attention to them.
