Munitions Stolen in France

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/french-munitions-theft-around-200-detonators-and-grenades-stolen-from-military-site-10372516.html

"Around 200 detonators and grenades have been stolen from a military site in southern France, according to officials.

Police investigating the case believe the munitions were stolen overnight at the Mirimas site, which is run by a combination of military services west of Marseille.

Thieves appear to have cut through a fence to enter the high-security site, according to a police official who spoke to The Associated Press on a condition of anonymity.

Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has ordered an investigation to be launched into who carried out the break-in, and how it was organised."

Damn, can't help but be slightly worried about this. France has one of the highest rates of radicalisation in western europe, and is considered a particularly hated enemy to lots of radical Islam (combination of their approach to religion and multiculturalism), and have made a number of threats of imminent terrorism.

On the otherhand is seems better planned than your standard lone extremists, but I just don't see serious likelihood of it being done by organised crime. It's huge risk, to comparatively little pay off. Not impossible, but would certainly be unusual.

Well, also - and correct me if I'm wrong here - but the relationship between organized crime in a broad sense and extremist / radical / terrorist groups is often pretty intertangled, isn't it?

It's definitely worrying, either way.

As a broad strokes generally the links are with the far right nationalist groups rather than the radical left, or religious outsiders. Think the IRA, Mafia, or the Yakuzas links to the far right.
