Re: Shipping from a Specific Moment

The beach episode was when I really started warming up to them. I really liked how they handled their relationship -- how Mai rightly called Zuko out when he was acting like an asshole, but when he apologized, she forgave him and tried to make him feel better because she could tell he was hurting.

One of my favorite lines was when Zuko said "My life hasn't been that easy either, Mai." and she responds "Whatever. That doesn't excuse the way you've been acting." Because she's SO RIGHT. Yes, Zuko's gone through a lot of shit, but that doesn't give him the right to treat others around him terribly. He has to get help, not use it as an excuse to be terrible to others.

It wasn't until The Boiling Rock, though, that I was 100% sold. Generally, I need a lot of build-up for my pairings so it took me a while to warm up to Zuko and Mai.

Yes. Those scenes where she called him out were perfect. That's something I love in a ship, so I was totally sold right from that episode. I usually need more of a build-up too, but I didn't for them. Weirdly it took me longer to warm up to Sokka/Suki.

I quite like Sokka/Suki but I wouldn't say I "ship" it. I'm not super invested in it but I do think they're cute together. I just wouldn't be broken hearted if they broke up or anything.

Exactly how I feel. I was glad he got to be happy, and I liked her, but there was nothing special that stood out to me about their romance. Actually, I think Zuko/Mai is the only thing from that show I still really ship. I was really into Katara/Aang the first time I watched, but it has also become a ship where I'm glad they are happy and find them cute but don't feel invested.

Same regarding Aang and Katara. I love both characters and I think they're cute together but I'm not invested. I can see why they like each other (although I do wish we'd gotten a bit more development on Katara's side).

But Zuko and Mai is the only pairing I read fic of and care about.
