When he says you should have better taste, is he referring to that particular series, or to point-and-click games in general (either way, boo to him)?

Anyway, ain't nothing wrong with point-and-click! I'm fond of the Deep Sleep series and the old King's Quest games, myself.

Sadly all the homestuck Drama means I'm a lot less disposed to give the new Kings Quest a chance.

What is this drama you speak of?

Short answer: Homestuck had a massively successful Kickstarter campaign to produce a video game. Andrew Hussie announced that it would be developed by The Odd Gentlemen, and then a long period of silence followed. That silence was eventually broken, around the date the game was originally meant to have been released, by an announcement that development was being moved to a new studio created by Hussie and his creative associates, with no further mention made of The Odd Gentlemen. This caused speculation.

Just recently, someone associated with the Homestuck art team claimed they managed to get a private answer as to why this was out of Hussie. Apparently, The Odd Gentlemen had taken the Kickstarter money, used it to fund their upcoming Kings Quest game, and done pretty much nothing with the Homestuck game at all. Exactly one build had been made -- a buggy sample containing one room and glitched physics. Hussie managed to get a settlement, but it was a bare fraction of the money he'd given to TOG to fund the game.

Shortly after the post revealing this went up, Hussie asked for it to be taken down, and the author complied, but not before it was saved to the Internet Archive. Hussie made a vague Twitter response neither confirming nor denying anything. Which many people have taken to mean 'it's true, but he's legally bound from saying anything about it due to the settlement.'

That... wasn't all that short. But hopefully it helped. The post in question is archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20150704220422/http://ipgd.tumblr.com/post/123230861032/im-sure-that-everyone-has-noticed-by-now-that-the

DA

This makes me very sad. I'm SUPER excited for the new King's Quest game. I've loved the games forever. It's sad that it's got this in it's background. :(

Thank you, kind anon!

That is...exceptionally shady, and I can see why people would want to avoid Kings Quest after that. I'll admit that this also makes a bit more wary about donating to Kickstarters.
