Intrusive thoughts?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Anybody have these?

Whenever I see a blender or food processor running I think about sticking my hand or face in there. It makes me cringe but I just can't stop doing it.

Sometimes while using the paper cutter at work I think about putting my finger in it to see if I could chop it off. D:

When I'm on top of a building, or like a high walkway or something, I can't help but think about what it'd be like to jump off.

+1 I've thought about this ever since I was a little kid (to fair, back then I thought if I jumped off I could just fly back up) and I still do, epsecially in multi-level malls.

Yep. The stairwell at work, or the balcony at the mall; I always think what it would be like to leap over.

I have them a lot, but I think most people do. It's incredibly common for people to think things like "I think I'm going to drive right off this bridge" and similar thoughts when there's no real intent to do so for instance. Sexually intrusive thoughts are also pretty common (like, for example, when someone is talking to a nice old lady and suddenly envisions themselves having sex with her even though they aren't actually attracted to that person)

Sure, sometimes when I'm cooking or whatever I'll imagine throwing a pot of boiling water at whoever is in the kitchen with me (for no particular reason).

Lots. I get a lot of intrusive thoughts to stab myself with whatever sharp thing I am holding (usually forks). Sometimes I get ones to break my own fingers or choke myself. Sometimes I get intrusive thoughts along the lines of "[loved one] wants to kill you". Etc etc

The last 10 or so medical tests I've had, I've just been chilling there thinking "wouldn't it be nice to be dead".

The last cardiac episode I had I was like "hey maybe this is it" and I felt so relieved. Just really calm and at peace with everything. I think it's a brain chemistry thing.

Lately I want to throw myself down the stairs but that's because I'm depressed about my family life.

There was a period when I wanted to keep driving straight on big curves over freeways, wondering if it would feel like flying. I could all but feel it happening, and just knew if I did it, it would all be in slow motion until I hit the ground on the other side. I noticed it didn't happen when anyone else was the car, which was nice.

Other than that, only when I'm in a depressive state or really fucking tired.

Oh, yes. There are many, like wondering what it'd be like to drive into the guardrail or straight off a cliff. Also a lot of sticking my hand in the garbage disposal thoughts.

That I'm a pedophile. It's very annoying for me to see children, which is probably a part of the problem (limited exposure.)

As a kid I had to walk back exactly the same path as I had arrived and some other stuff.

When I was thirteen I had intrusive thoughts about satanism and rejecting God in favor of Satan.

Then it became sexual thoughts about animals. Then sexual thoughts about my parents and siblings, then killing my parents, then racism(!) and finally my brain seemed to get stuck on pedophilia, which is probably because it's the most hated/taboo/evil thing. (I'm an atheist so the Satanism thing doesn't work anymore.)

Bonus points: I have groinial reponse which is why I don't want to hang out with kids. Luckily I realised early on that it feels completely different to actual arousal.

Funny thing: if I see something I think is a child, for instance a chair or a doll, I have the same response as if I were to see an actual child.

This all sounds super-depressing, but the thoughts are a tiny, tiny part of my life and I've accepted them long ago.
