Favorite nonshippy dynamics

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Because while trying to figure out a way to contribute to the ship threads of late, I realized that I don't really have strong feelings about any romantic ships, but I have lots of friendships and character dynamics that I love.

For instance: I love Scott and Stiles and the way Stilinski and Melissa are with both of them. (I do ship Stilinski/Melissa, though). I love Joe and Barry on The Flash and Bruce and Alfred on Gotham. Mac and Fitz, Skye and Trip, and Skye and Coulson on Agents of SHIELD (I kind of ship Meelinda/Coulson, but mostly love their friendship, too).

SO, most of MY immediate ones are clearly based on a familial -- usually parental -- dynamic. But what are some of y'alls nonromantic/sexual ships?

I like all of the ones that you mention (although I do also ship Scott/Stiles and Mac/Fitz romantically. Their friendships are great on their own too though). I also really like the dynamic between Laurel and her father on Arrow. It's not always healthy exactly, but it's often very touching imo.

Bobby from Supernatural had a pretty good dynamic with Sam and Dean as well I miss Bobby

Nate & Sophie's relationships with Eliot, Parker, and Hardison in "Leverage." They were quasi-mentors, quasi-parents as the series progressed. It was interesting to see how they interacted differently with each of the "kids" (ex., Sophie helping Parker develop her social skills, them treating Eliot as slightly more of an equal, etc.).

Siblings, substitute parents, really close friends who are so close because they've fought together and therefore share a special bond.

Clint and Natasha in both Avengers movies, I love getting to see m+f friendships that aren't romantic in nature and where they still love each other a whole hell of a lot and these two hit that for me. I love their banter, I love the obvious affection that they have for one another and while I do feel that the barn scene was mostly pointless in AoU the whole auntie-Nat thing to me was so effing adorable, she's his kids auntie!! :DD

My OT3-ing of Parker/Eliot/Hardison aside I actually just love, love, love the entire team's dynamic. They all work well together, care for each other, and bounce off of and learn from each other and they are the biggest hit for my found family button ever.

All the banter and teamwork between both sets of survivors in the L4D and L4D2 series, sure they snark and complain(mostly on Nick's end) even threaten to leave each other sometimes but ultimately they stick around for each other and have one another's backs. I'm also particularly fond of Nick and Rochelle's combined snark, they're great when they get going.

Scott and Stiles, their friendship was one of my favourite non-familial relationships on the show. They've been friends for years and it shows, their banter amuses me and they obviously care for one another a great deal. (I'd also add the Stiles-Sheriff and Scott-Melissa relationships too because I love them as well, just wonderful father-son and mother-son dynamics for me).

Hilda and Zelda from Sabrina will always be one of my favourite sister relationships, they're wise counselors for Sabrina when she really needs them and then bratty teenagers getting into stupid fights that siblings do. Oh and Salem+everyone as well, I loved watching him interact with the other characters.

On another sibling related note: Evie and Jonathan from the Mummy, they tease each other good-naturedly, care for one another a great deal and are generally a joy for me to watch(but tbh every relationship in that movie is a joy for me to watch).

My biggest nonromantic ship is Legolas and Gimli. I just love their friendship.

I do ship them romantically, but I also just love their friendship. I really love the idea of these two completely different cultures that have had tensions and wars in the past, and yet these two with all they go through are able to become friends. Such close friends that Legolas sneaks him into Valinor. I love Celebrimbor and Narvi's friendship too, though not as much. Just the idea of dwarf and elf friendships really appeals to me.

Hurt comfort where the child/teen looks after the older one. Really only enjoyable in a nonshippy context!

Castiel/Claire on Supernatural.

She brings out a really sweet parental side of him and she's starved for parental approval even though she hides it under a tough veneer.

Speaking of Teen Wolf, I love Jackson and Lydia's dynamic. I want them to be best friend more than anything. Actually, scratch that. I want them to be siblings that drive around the US in sports car and hunt monsters, like a more fashionable Winchester siblings
