Who are the actors?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day and Neil Patrick Harris.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like Neil Patrick Harris because I find his douchey rapist character from How I Met Your Mother insufferable. I'm sure he's great in real life but I can't see him without seeing that awful character.

I never watched HIMYM - well, I saw a couple episodes and found it dumb, so I didn't watch more. Which makes me glad, because for me, Neil Patrick Harris's "default" character is actually Dr. Horrible/Billy, and I adore it. It was actually weird seeing him in that terrible role in that terrible show, probably one of the reasons I couldn't get into it.

Why would your friend urge you to watch it if you hate musicals? I don't get people who recommend things because they like them rather than because they think the recommend-ee would like them.

I think some people are just really bad at stepping outside of themselves.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
At the time there was so much geeky buzz about this show because it was a Joss Whedon project. IME, a lot of Whedon fans are incredibly tone deaf about reccing his work to others. They're so into it that they can't imagine anyone else wouldn't be.

(BFF is a huge Whedon fan, in case it wasn't obvious)

my friends pretty much MADE me watch it even though I can't stand NPH, I think they thought it would convert me to being a fan of his. It didn't.

I get your feeling, OP. I was that way a while with Emma Morrison because of how much I hated her House character, though I eventually got over it. So I get how one piece of media can ruin an actor for you.

Right. Sorry. Took pain meds earlier, so a bit groggy.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-10 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Admittedly I've only seen her on House, but nothing I saw there made me respect her acting abilities. You notice by the end of the first season, the writers were steering the smart technical lines to the other characters because she simply couldn't sell "knowledgeable and insightful" as an actor?

I mostly agree. She's been okay on Once Upon a Time, but they are going the route of making her character dark this next season and I really don't think she can pull it off.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-10 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I think Jennifer has gotten better? I know she made me wince a few times in the first season, but I think she's gotten better. Or maybe the character just grew on me, I don't know. I know I couldn't stand Cameron, but I like Emma. She's one of the few characters I still care about on that show. :(

I love musicals, but I couldn't even get through the first ep and have no desire to see the rest.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The only one I found cringe-worthy was Felicia Day (and I love the woman to bits, she just can't act). Luckily, the character herself was dry so in that sense, Felicia didn't act that badly.

But whatever, Nathan Fillion was hilarious and if you found his campy character cringeworthy, I don't know what to say. Neil Patrick Harris was also amazing.

I feel for you OP. I hate watching this. I love musicals but this gives me second hand embarrassment. The majority of my friends love this though, but heaven forbid you don't. Luckily I've been able to dodge rewatches, but even thinking about a rewatch makes me uncomfortable.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-10 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I love musicals and this is one of my favorites. The songs are just so catchy.

Too bad nph and nathan fillon are too old and crusty to do the sequel.

Same!
I had people reccing it to me and nobody ever mentioned it was a musical, so all the singing took me by (very happy!) surprise. I mean, I should have figured it out from the title, but well. Sometimes teen!me was kinda oblivious.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-10 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's too bad. I found it really silly fun. The king of all evil was a bored-looking horse, what's not to lulz? XD

(Anonymous) 2015-07-10 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
I would totally watch any series about the Evil League of Evil.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-10 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
I could've written this secret. Everyone I knew was OBSESSED with this musical and it made me want to barf. And I love musicals. No one I knew could understand at ALL why I would dislike it so much. It is utterly cringe-inducing. I avoid pretty much everything NPH, Felicia Day, and Nathan Fillion do to this day because of Dr. Horrible. Blech.

(Though the tiny bit of Firefly I've seen was all right, I suppose.)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-10 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
I like musicals, and I'm so unenthused by Doctor Horrible. It was cute and quirky when it came out in 2008. Can we stop talking about it, friends?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-14 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, and I'm sorry that your friends pushed you into it. I think that some people really need to chill out when it comes to their favourite shows and media and remember that everybody has different tastes.

Hope you find something different and cool to watch and enjoy the hell out of it. You deserve it.
