I secretly love this movie for its music and imagery, while freely admitting that the plot and most of the acting are excremental.

Isn't the music and imagery why most people enjoy it?

Yes.

It's why I enjoy it. And I didn't think Vincent D'Onofrio's acting was that bad.

Vincent D'Onofrio is always good.

I believe so.

Everything else aside, the imagery stuck with me and haunted me for days. Anything that can inspire that kind of reaction deserves a nod, I think.

That and Jennifer Lopez's ass.

What? I ain't deep.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. That's also pretty much how I feel about Tron: Legacy.

I don't know, I like parts of the plot in T:L. Clu 2.0 trying to create a 'perfect world' that turned into a dystopia because thinking beings don't do perfect very well, I liked that part, and Rinzler is an angst/redemption goldmine. I don't think they did the best job with the ISOs, though, and there were a lot of ideas that they only teased and didn't develop. I think the plot did have some meat to it, but could have stood to be developed better.

This is one of my fav movies. idgaf about the bad plot or Lopez's shitty acting, D'Onofrio was pretty badass and the setting and crazy imagery was incredible.

I make no secret about how much I love this movie.
It's beautiful, no one can convince me otherwise.

That's pretty much my feelings about it too. I feel Tarsem has an incredible visual sense, but outside of 'The Fall' (which is a beautiful movie all around in my book), most of his stuff lacks any real substance IMHO.

That's how I feel about Sofia Coppola's film about Marie Antoinette.

Oooh yeah, that film was gorgeous; it really had a fantastic sense of style and the soundtrack was pretty good too. It really is too bad that they didn't put even half as much effort into the plot or characters (I'm still kind of surprised that the film was actually received more positively in France by critics than it was in America. idk what happened there)

Well, sometimes the awesome spectacle is the point, rather than the plot or acting. It's not every movie that makes live action scenes out of paintings and sculptures, and it's definitely worth a watch for Hannibal fans as an influence on the show. Still, I really liked Jennifer Lopez in it and found her performance surprisingly moving, especially the Virgin Mary scene. She and the last Stargher victim were way better than the guys, I thought.

"excremental"

I just appreciate how you describe the shit acting and plot. It sounds like the epic shit of shittiness. Thank you. Thank you, very much.

I just looked it up to double check that it was a valid word, and also found this word:

excrementitious

I wish I'd found that before I made the secret; 'tis an even more epic fecal word.

Don't feel bad, OP, that movie is one of the most amazing looking movies I have ever seen. That image of the giant cloak coming off the walls as he walks forward, goddamn.
