Re: Sort of weird question...

Really?

I mean, I know that can be one of the definitions, but when I look it up it only says:

"not revealing one's thoughts or feelings readily"

Or this:

restrained in expression, presentation, or appearance

Or this:

restrained in expression, presentation, or appearance <the room has an aspect of reticent dignity — A. N. Whitehead>

I mean, it can't only refer to speaking in that context? If it's talking about a room being reticent.

DA

Reticent has the connotation of expression or expressing personal thoughts or feelings.

"Making a gay character have an exception" is not a personal thought or feeling.

You would not be reticent to go skydiving, but you might be hesitant to.

"Be reticent to" is an awkward phrase to begin with. Something is or is not reticent like something is or is not red.

I looked up some examples. This one in particular stood out to me:

"At first I felt reticent about passing my enormous rucksack over to him."

The way I used reticent was largely the same. People feel reticent about writing the reverse due to the possibility of unfortunate implications. I hardly see how my use of the word was wrong in that context.

Here's the source for the above phrase: http://sentence.yourdictionary.com/reticent
