I'll be going on vacation tomorrow so I REALLY don't want to head to a motel just for tonight but goddammit...

Set off a bug bomb/fumigator (can buy at most hardware stores) on your way out the door. You'll be away from the noxious fumes, and can come back to a hopefully cockroach-free house.

Eh, I'd say that's overkill at this stage. If it was just the one big roach, it probably came from the outside, and most likely during the A/C incident. No need to panic unless more show up.

AYRT

- large roach - has reached adulthood, likely has reproduced
- roach in bedroom, usually the infestation is at Joe's Apartment-levels if they're outside of the kitchen/bathroom
- even if it is overkill, at least OP can be assured they will return to a roach-free zone

All signs point to bug bombing your place while you're on vacay, OP:

Whatever you do, make sure there are no food spills or crumbs in your kitchen. It might also be a good idea to scrub your kitchen garbage pail with a bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water), and run some bleach and/or boiling water down your kitchen sink drain.

DA

Also scrub the rubber gasket/lining around your fridge door with that bleach solution, OP; and spread boracic acid powder (buy over the counter at most pharmacies) in a thin line around all baseboards and windowsills, and along the top of the backsplash of all of your counters.
