I was chewing on ice and I swallowed a piece of ice that was sharp. Now my throat really hurts and my whole mouth tastes like blood. Am I supposed to be doing something or is it going to heal?

how are you still alive and/or able to post?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
It's not like I'm coughing up bucketloads of blood

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
eat some poop

that should help

(Anonymous) 2015-07-11 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Depends.

Did it puncture or sever anything important on the way down?

How big a piece?

Maybe you should call someone to come watch you.

But no, I don't think you're going to bleed to death from a torn esophagus.

Pretty big. At least a couple of inches. My saliva is a bit red which is disconcerting.

Great. As long as "death" isn't among the option I'm happy.

It's most likely a good idea to have someone around just in case. But persistent pain and irritation is more likely. You could get a yeast (or worse) infection in the cut and need medicine.

Mmmm keep an eye on it, try and only eat soft things and follow up with water to prevent infection. it should close up by tomorrow but take it easy with our food for a week.

if excessive blood starts happening, go to a public hospital and cough it on them.

Idk. You should do what feels best for you. A trip to ER is too much at this point, it seems, but if it'll make you feel better, go for it. You can loose a lot of blood untill it becomes a problem and the cut should clot and heal...
It's likely your throat or mouth coz your saliva is pink.

Sorry, you cut your jugular vein from the inside and now you are going to die in seconds.

Congratulations, you've lacerated your throat and possibly oesophagus. I have bad news, you are going to live. Unless you have gastric reflux disease then all that will happen is that swallowing will be a bit painful for the next few days. Eat soft, cool, foods and nothing spicy until next weekend. If you have chronic gastric reflux then you'll still probably be fine, but your recovery will be stretched out over a few weeks and you may want to schedule a meeting with your family doctor just in case. Oh, and you'll have a slightly bloody stool some time in the next 48 hours or so. Don't panic, that is normal in cases like this.

And finally, keep on trying, you didn't succeed this time but I'm sure you'll get your coveted Darwin Award winner button eventually.
