Does anyone know anything about concrete? We just put in a stoop and there are some issues.

Yo. Did it not go off properly? Not level? What mix did you use?

Of course it's the two aussies who reply to you. Haha.

I worked on a slab pouring crew during summer in high school, and it is surprisingly cool.

It's like baking a cake but then it doesn't get eaten and disappear forever.

Fuck rendering though. Rendering is an excellent way to lose an arm to exhaustion.

I think I only have one atm and it's the cheapo pre-mixed just add water kind, which makes me sad because I like to do my own and I got to do fancy ones with added colours and textures for driveways, so it feels wrong.

oh no, you're way more of a guru than me, anon you should ask belladonna! I am but a dabbler in comparison, some garden fences, some between house fences and the odd repair...

My skills are rusty though! I haven't done a pour in years.

We'll have to pool our combined knowledge.

I feel like that conversation could have happened to me at some point.
I'm having a sense of bogan deja vu.

Sunny and 19 here. Not that I'm out enjoying it but my laundry is drying so that's nice.

(OMG so late - sorry)

My basic issue is cosmetic. The concrete itself was poured okay except the form didn't hold up the greatest in one corner and it just doesn't look that great. And the step didn't come out the best so that we had to use this stuff that's left a white powdery residue behind that looks like you could sand it or wash it away but you can't.

We haven't sealed it yet but right now the step/patio just doesn't that great. Any thoughts?

If it's about the right shape and level on top, and you don't want to redo the whole thing, I'd probably just seal it and maybe paint it. You can buy paint that's meant for going on concrete floors. I painted a school playground with this stuff once and it's pretty tough and non-slippy. I think it must be a kind of epoxy because it sort of creates a flatter surface on top of the concrete, so it might cover the weird powdery residue. Sometimes you get funny textures like that if your mix is too wet or dry or it goes off quickly on a hot day.
Probably have a jump on the dodgy corner first to check that the step isn't shifting or cracking if it's too thin or the ground you poured it on was softer in that spot. I'm not sure how deep your step is, so I'm trying to cover my bases.

You could crack it up and re-pour, but I wouldn't pour another layer on top of your existing one because it would most likely start to crack in hot weather.

Idk. That's the best I can do without eyeballing this thing.
