Man, I hated the first two episodes of this show but I really want to watch Season 2 for Tom Hardy. Can I skip the first season and still understand Season 2?

Probably not? There's a lot that happens, lots of set-up. Granted, I haven't watched any of season 2 yet, so...I can't say for sure.

Anyway, I thought it picked up steam after the first couple of episodes, so it might be worth it for you to give episode 3 a try. Could just not be your thing, though.

He's an actual character. But I'm not sure you'd call him properly Jewish. Has little to do with his character besides some clothing and an obligatory DON'T TOUCH OUR WOMEN moment.

You probably see Jewish characters all the time, just British people don't discuss their religion so it doesn't come across. Plus there isn't many Jews in the UK, and mostly they didn't go into entertainment-production in the same numbers as in America.
