What's sad is WB's one attempt at mimicking Marvel resulted in the Green Lantern movie. I'm not sure WB actually understands superheroes at all, they certainly don't seem to like them.

I actually never saw the Green Lantern movie. I'm half tempted to, just to see. In general, though, I'm not fond of the current movie trend.

I really miss the DCAU. Batman was my childhood hero because of it, along with the rest of the JLA. I mean, yes, Gotham was still dark in TAS, but it was dark in a cool, noirish, really aesthetic kind of way, and the characters had a sense of humour. There was still a lot of depth and difficult topics (Shayera after the Thanagarian invasion, Cadmus, and The Zeta Project is one of my favourite 'AI on the run' stories ever), and Batman was still largely as stoic as ever, but people were allowed to be uncomplicated nice, and sometimes hilariously silly. I miss that.

Also, it felt ... I'm not sure. More balanced? Going back to the new trailer, I'm not sure how happy I am about the way they're highlighting the power difference between Bats and Supes (and the theological connotations that come with it). Something about it makes me uneasy. The extra, personal anger they seem to have given Bruce towards Superman does not seem auspicious to me. Depending on where the cooperation kicks in, and how much damage was done beforehand, it has the potential to make one or both sides look really really bad and/or really really weak. Or both, given, you know, grimdark.

It also looks like they're setting up Bruce and Lex as more direct, overt foils for each other, but given that this Lex also has more than a few Joker-during-Dark-Knight vibes, it looks like they're just transferring a lot of Luthor's traditional characterisation straight onto Bruce as well. Which I'm not sure I'm happy about.

I know most people hated Green Lantern, but for some reason I liked it a lot. People were saying Ryan Reynolds came across as a jerk and unlikeable and that the movie was corny, but I still really liked the corniness. Maybe that's just me though. I liked Sam Raimi's Spiderman movies so .
