Comparing similar websites

So let's do a thing where we compare two websites that have similar usage because that is fun. Put the sites in the subject line.

Tumblr vs DeviantArt

I like deviantart because I'm less likely to have to read people's stupid opinions. I like tumblr because everyone posts their shit there. It's tough. I guess da.

I liked da more when it was active than tumblr now. Sure the people incharge sucked, but at it at least felt more casual and it was easier to strike up a conversation. Tumblr's more about creating your own space and I feel like I'm enroaching on that anything I consider interacting with anyone there.

It was easy enough for me to avoid the bad art on deviantart, so I never really got those complaints and I found it easier to discover new artists there as well. It's really easy to get stuck in the same rehash of content of tumblr and it's a struggle for me to diversify my dash without settling for shitty blogs.

But nobody uses da anymore so I'm reluctantly use tumblr instead.

I think deviantart is more organized and easier to browze, I like that my watch list divides the art from the journals from everything else, and that I can pick and choose which of those I watch and easily X out any previews I'm not interested in.

It makes it easier to follow a lot of people and also not miss their posts.

Tumblr is way more active though so I mostly go on tumblr, I wish it was organized though and I have trouble following too many people at once.

I like how da shows you similar works and what groups a work is in, so you can find similar stuff by other people. I also think it's easier to browse within an individual artist's works. tumblr is really at the mercy of how people tag and you have to scroll through things chronologically instead of viewing a bunch of thumbnails at once.
