I empathize, OP. I hated the way Emma Frost was portrayed in X-Men First Class, but I love the way she's written in fic. I do consider myself an Emma Frost fan based on that, too.

Ugh, Emma's treatment in X-Men First Class really upset me. She was treated so horribly! I love her in the comics, though. (I've yet to try to read much fanfic, as most of what I saw was Charles/Erik, and I really doubted it would do her justice.)

Actually, the fanfic Emma was vastly better than the movie Emma, in part due to people drawing on her comics self, but also due to writers who had never seen the comics just saying "Ugh, I can do better with that character".
